What to do here
Holidays in Zavala on the Hvar island are something special. Even when you come to the island, you'll be surrounded by a pleasant smell of pine trees, lavender, rosemary and other plants. Certainly you already have plans about what you'll be doing here; however, we would like to recommend you the things that made us fall in love with this particular island.
- Since we don't live in the house, nobody will hinder your holidays, you'll have enough privacy. You can just stay in the house during all day, on the large see view terrace or in the garden, fenced with a traditional Dalmatian stone fence, where you'll find some tables, chairs and deckchairs.
- Only 50 m away from the house there is a large pebble beach, where sun bathing and swimming is nice for children and adults. The sea is extremely clean and nicely warm. There are more pebble beaches in the vicinity, yet you can also choose a rock beach or a small pier, from which your children can jump to the water.
- You can walk to Sv. Ante, a little over 400 m high hill with a chapel above the village. The route starts behind the store in Zavala. You'll walk on thousand years old way that was the only connection between Zavala and Jelsa until 1963, when the tunnel was built.
- Zavala is a great spot for windsurfing; NW wind maestral blows here every afternoon.
- Island Hvar is great for trekking and cycling, especially during spring, autumn and winter. You can find some cycling trails here.

- Zavala has a grocery store, a small bakery, some restaurants and cafes, but it is far away from mass tourism. It is impossible for tourist buses to come to the south coast of Hvar because of the tunnel.
- You can buy fish just from fishermen on the pier in the centre of Zavala. It is also possible to catch fish; there are some good places for fishing, also underwater. You can prepare them on the barbecue in the evening. Because there is enough room on the terrace, you can also invite your friends.
- From Zavala you can go to a boat trip to the nearby Šćedro island; you can catch a boat on the pier in the centre.
- Visit Sv. Nedilja as well; you'll see the most beautiful vineyards on the steep slopes under Sv. Nikola, the highest hill on the island. You can walk to the top from where you'll have an amazing view over the islands that surround Hvar and also to the Biokovo coastal massif. Don't forget to visit Dragonjina špilja, which hides the rests of a monastery from the 15th century. Taste excellent vine Mali Plavac from this area on your way back.
- If you have a boat, you can visit some of the beaches nearby, the Šćedro island or two small islands Lukavci. Snorkelling and diving is also interested, especially near Šćedro, where there are some sunk ships, among them some Roman ones.
